Ahoy Pirates from the Czech Republic!
On May 28th 2010 the Czech Pirate Party will participate in national elections for the first time. This will not only be a big step for the Czech Pirate Party, but also for the Pirate movement as a whole as the electors of yet another country can change the way politics is done by voting Pirate.
The political program of the Czech Pirates will received more promotion at a conference [1] in Prague on 22 May 2010. There were guests from Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Bulgaria, and other Pirate celebrities, such as Amelia Anderstotter, the Swedish Pirate Party MEP, who gave a short talk and answered questions.
The election program of the Czech Pirate Party [2] consists of four articles:
1. Citizen's rights and personal freedoms
Democracy cannot function without respecting people and their rights and privacy, both on the Internet and in the streets. Internet is our sea and we shall prevent it from being censored.
2. Transparent government
The remedy to wasting and corruption is public control over the finances that the authorities have at their disposal, such as the transparent banking accounts. We shall increase the efficiency of civil service institutions by connecting them digitally together.
3. Politicians subjected to citizens' control
We want to prevent the abuse of political power by dividing it among several elected institutions that will check on each other. Direct democracy will empower citizens to exert influence over the decision-making of their elected representatives.
4. No monopolies — creating at ease
The current copyright system of prohibition and punishment is outdated, ineffective and does not support any new creations. Copyright and patent law has to be radically amended or abolished altogether. We advocate to amend it so that the contingent protection will establish evidence of supporting new creations.
Two curiosities are that the party openly confessed that it copied parts of the program straight out of the programs of the other pirate parties, since "sharing is caring." The party also considers the freedom of treatment which is curtailed by the punishments of the numerous patients who use medical marihuana.
The board of the PPI wants to express its best wishes to the Czech Pirate Party and is confident that your dedication will be rewarded.
Best wishes and greetings from,
Pirate Parties International
